The THIRD INSTALLATION MEETING of Lodge Reginald Spence No.5514 EC for the year 1937-38 was held at Freemasons Hall, Ravelline Street, Fort, Bombay 1 on November 29,1937 when the District Grand Master of the District Grand Lodge of Bombay and Northern India accompanied by his deputation was invited. The officers for the year were:

Bro. Dr. Kaikhushru Nusserwanji Sahiar was a medical practitioner with his clinic at 81, Marine Lines, Bombay 2. He was initiated into freemasonry on March 14,1912. He was a founder member of Lodge Reginald Spence No.5514 EC and also was a member of Lodge Beman No.1069 SC, Lodge Barton No.475 SC, Lodge Dawn of Peace No.526 EC, Lodge Cornwallis No.5062 EC and Lodge Haig Brown No.3829 EC. He was made an honorary member of the lodge. He resigned on April 16,1957. He held the rank of P.G.D of C; P.Dist.G.W. He was called to the Grand Lodge Above on January 5,1966.

 

W. Bro. Dara Mervanji Munshi was born on December 2,1900 and saw the light of freemasonry at the age of 34 years. He was professor of Zoology at St. Xaviers College where I was his student. He resided at Jairaj Building, 28 Forjett Street, Bombay. He was also the head of COSA (collegians own students association), a tutorial class at Tottie Terrace, Grant Road, Bombay. He was an excellent teacher and his skill at drawing zoological specimens and sections, in colour on the blackboard, has yet to be equaled by any other teacher. He was initiated into freemasonry on October 18,1935, passed to the degree of fellowcraft freemason on January 17,1936 and raised to the degree of master mason on March 20,1936. He was a very active brother of Lodge Reginald Spence No.5514 EC and held several offices. Asst. D of C in the year 1937-38; I.G. the next year. He became S.D. on November 26,1938; then Secretary; Chaplin; J.W. and S.W. He was installed in the Eastern Chair on November 16,1943 and held the office of IPM the following year. Thereafter he was Asst. D of C for two years and D of C for three years. Due to heavy pressure of work and and poor health he resigned on September 16,1968.

 

Bro. Kikubhai Bapubhai Desai was born on November 5,1902. He embraced freemasonry at the age of 39 years. He was proprietor of Paramount Movitone and resided at Janmashtami Building, Khetwadi Back Road, Bombay. Initiated on September 18,1936, passed on October 30,1936 and raised on January 19,1937. He was Organist of the lodge and an active brother. He was called to the Grand Lodge Above on November 26,1941.

During the year there were a several brethren who had a short sojourn with Lodge Reginald Spence No.5514 EC.

 

Bro. WILLIAM HENRY BRETT was director of Raptakoss Brett & Co. Ltd., residing at 14 Oliver Road, Fort, Bombay. He was raised to the degree of master mason on July 17,1936. He held the active office of Secretary for a period of 5 months. He did not attend regularly and resigned on January 7,1963.

 

Bro. BAPUJI HORMUSJI DUBASH lived at Princess Building, Princess Street, Bombay 2. He joined the lodge on December 18,1936 and resigned on September 17,1940. He was also a member of Lodge Barton No.475 SC.

 

Bro. ABDULTAYEB ESMAILJI MASKATI, a merchant by profession. Living at Maskati House, Mohamedally Road, joined the lodge on December 18,1936. He was placed on the absent list on February 1,1937. He resigned on June 27,1838. He was also a member of Lodge Islam No.587 SC.

 

Bro. DAMODAR DADOBA MANTRI, 36 years old, landlord of Mantri House. French Bridge, Girgaum, Bombay was a joining member on December 18,1936. A member of lodge Islam No.587 SC, he was excluded on December 20,1938.

 

Bro. GULAMALI EBRAHIMJI KADIANI was 39 years old when he joined the lodge. A brother from Lodge Islam No.587 SC, he was a solicitor by profession residing at Bandookwalla Manzil, Mohamedally Road. He resigned on March 11,1938.

 

Bro. HUSAINI ABDULABHOY VERAWALLA was a merchant by profession. He lived at Arthur Bunder Road, Colaba, Bombay. He joined the lodge on December 18,1936 and was Asst. Secretary for one year. He was also a member of Lodge Islam No.587 SC. He resigned from the lodge on April 16,1940.

 

Bro. ISMAIL MOHAMED JAFFER a merchant by profession, was 32 years when joined Lodge Reginald Spence No.5514 EC. He resided at the Islam Club Building, Chowpatty Sea Face, Bombay. He was a member of Lodge Islam No.587 SC and joined the lodge on December 18,1936. He resigned from the lodge on March 22,1939.

 

Bro. Dr. FURDOON CURSETJI CONTRACTOR was born on December 20,1895. He was initiated in Lodge Reginald Spence No.5514 EC on December 18,1936. Passed after two months, he was raised to the degree of master mason on April 19.1937. Not keeping good health, he was called to the Grand Lodge Above on October 23,1937.

 

Bro. LADISLAN PLOSKAL was initiated on March 16,1937, passed on April 20,1937 and raised on June 7,1937. He was a trade commissioner living at 21, Cuffe Parade, Colaba, Bombay. He was excluded on January 19,1943. He rejoined the lodge on August 31,1946 and was again excluded on April 18,1961.

 

Bro. NAGINDAS PURSHOTAMDAS PATEL, a merchant by profession was born on February 1,1896. He was initiated in March 1937 and became a master mason on May 17,1938. He resided at Bhagat Building, Kumbhar Tukda, Bhuleshwar, Bombay. He was excluded on February 17,1953.

 

Bro. KHANSAHIB HAJI HAIDERALI HAJI BACHOOALI was 45 years old when he saw the light of freemasonry. A landlord and a merchant, he resided at Bachooali House, Sandhurst Road (East), Dongri, Bombay. A member of Lodge Islam No.587 SC he joined the lodge on May 18,1937 and resigned May 21,1940.

 

Bro. MANGALBHAI GAVRISHANKER VAKIL born on November 2,1897, was initiated on May 18,1937, passed on July 20,1937 and raised on August 21,1937. He resigned on April 16,1940.

 

Bro. Dr. DILSUKHRAI VANDRAVANDAS VIBHAKER was a medical practitioner at Shanker Bhuvan, French Bridge, Bombay. He was raised to the degree of master mason on October 19,1937 and resigned on April 16,1940.

 

Bro. HAJI ESMAIL DOSSA an exporter of wool and goat hair. He resided at Manekia Building, Jail Road (East), Bombay. He resigned six months after being made a master mason.

 

Bro. SHIVRAM VINAYAK  SATHE was a weaving master, living at Karmarkar's Bungalow, Naopada Road, Thana. Initiated on February 18,1938, he was raised on May 17,1938. He was excluded on February 17,1953.

 

Bro. RAMRAO GAJANAN KIRTIKAR was a merchant. He joined the lodge on July 19,1938. He was a member of Lodge Bhore Ghaut No.3465 EC. He resigned on October 15,1940.

 

Bro. ODHAVJI DHANJI SHAH a solicitor by profession, joined the lodge on September 4,1938. He resided at Temple View, Hughes Road, Bombay and was Steward; Asst. Secretary and Joint Steward of Lodge Reginald Spence No.5514 EC. He was also a member of Lodge Cyrus No.1359 EC. He resigned on December 15,1942.

 

Bro. JAMNADAS GOKULDAS SHAH was a joining member from Lodge Aryan No.1707 EC on September 20,1938. He was excluded on October 18,1955.

 

Bro. NARSINGRAO LAXMANRAO KODIKAL was born on October 21,1900. He was the manager, chemical department, E. D. Sassoon & Co.Ltd. He resided at Sonawala Building No.3, Blocks 2-3C, Tardeo Road, Bombay. A brother from Lodge Mother India No.1388 SC, he joined the lodge on October 18,1938. He resigned from the lodge on April 16,1940. He rejoined the lodge on January 18,1960.
