RIP RW Bro Sir Reginald Spence Kt on Thursday, September 14,1961

The TWENTYSIXTH INSTALLATION MEETING of Lodge Reginald Spence No.5514 EC was held at Freemasons Hall on November 15,1960 when Bro. A.K.E.Haveliwala was installed in the Chair of King Solomon. The officers for the year were:

Bro. Abdul Kaiyun Esufali Haveliwala was very ably installed in the Eastern Chair by W.Bro. Yahya Mohamedally Degani in the presence of Rt.W. the District Grand Master, Rt.W.Bro. Bhogilal Chimanlal Shah and the deputation from the District Grand Lodge. Address to the newly installed master was given by W.Bro. Yahya Mohamedally Degani and to the wardens by W.Bro. Dara Mervanji Munshi. 18 visitors attended the meeting.

There were 64 brethren on the roll of the lodge at the beginning of the year and the financial position of the lodge was sound. Adequate charities were disbursed. W.Bro. Dinubhai Labhshanker Bhatt was nominated to the Board of General Purposes and Bro. J.D. Mistry and Bro. N.J.P. Shroff were appointed to the Permanent Committee. By a letter Bro. P.M. Patel requested he be put on the Absent List.

An important development in the meeting dated April 18,1961 was that W.Master, W.Bro. Abdul Kaiyum Esufali Haveliwala informed the brethren that the Grand Lodge of India was to be consecrated and he proposed that Lodge Reginald Spence No.5514 EC join the Grand Lodge of India. He was seconded by W.Bro. Gaman Manilal Mehta. Following a discussion the proposition was put to vote. After explaining the procedure 17 brethren voted. 14 for joining the Grand Lodge of India, 1 against and 2 brothers abstained. The proposition was carried off.

During the meeting dated September 19,1961 W.Master, W.Bro. Abdul Kaiyun Esufali Haveliwala conveyed the afflicting news to the brethren that Rt. W. Bro. Sir Reginald Spence Kt; P.G.D.(Eng); P.Dist.G.M. was summoned to the Grand Lodge Above on Thursday, September 14,1961.

Bro. TAYEB SK HEPTABHOY ZIAUDDIN was born on May 9,1915. He was a merchant residing a 13, Mirza Street, Bombay 2. Proposed by W.Bro. A.K.E. Haveliwala and seconded by Bro. A.E. Haveliwala he was initiated on December 20,1960, passed on February 21,1961 and raised on April 18,1961. He was Swd. Br. For 2 years and Br. V.S.L. for 2 years. He resigned soon after.

Bro. AZIZ ABDUL REHMAN MERCHANT proposed by Bro. Abdul Husein Zainulabedin and seconded by Bro. A.K.E. Haveliwala he was initiated on January 17,1962, passed on March 21,1961 and raised on July 18,1961. He was Organist; Almoner and Br. V.S.L for one year each. He resigned on August 8,1979.

Bro. Hasan Abdultayeb Motiwala

Bro. Hasan Abdultayeb Motiwala was born on July 11,1928. He resided at Mohamedally Manzil, Dharamsi Cross Road, Bombay 3. In later life he moved to Poona. He was initatiated on October 20,1958. Passed on December 16,1958 and raised on March 15,1959.

He was a very senior brother of the lodge and took keen interest in matters of the lodge. A very obliging person he was fond of living a good life as far as food is concerned. Of late he had developed arthritis of the knee joints, which though painful, did not dampen his spirit and he regularly attended the meetings of the lodge.

He was Steward on November 15,1960; Organist on November 17,1961; Almoner on November 19,1963. He was Asst. Secretary; Secretary; Asst. D of C; and was Steward of the lodge for the next 16 years.

He was proprieter of the shop Alibhoys on Lokmanya Tilak Marg. His wife is a very devote housewife. Retired from active business he helped his children and family in all respects. R.W. the Regional Grand Master, R.W.Bro. Saleh Huseini Doctor travelled to Pune to present him with a 40 years Long Term Service Jewel in the year 2000. He was called to the Grand Lodge Above on September 25,2009.

Initiation: Mr. Tayeb Sk. Heptabhoy Zainulabeden on December 21,1960 and Mr. Aziz Abdul Rehman Merchant on January 17,1961.

Passing: Bro. Heptabhoy on February 21,1961 and Bro. Merchant on March 21,1961.

Raising: Bro. Heptabhoy on April 18,1962, Bro. Merchant on July 18.1962; Bro. Oosman Furniturewala on July 18,1961 and Bro. Esmail Tayebjee on April 18,1961.

Two brethren of the lodge resigned. They were Bro. Bhagwandas Haribhai Bhawsar on May 13,1961 and Bro. Nagindas Gordhandas Shah on March 31,1961.

The brethren of the lodge donated a sum of Rs. 101.00 towards the portrait of our beloved Rt.W. the District Grand Master, Rt.W.Bro. Bhogilal Chimanlal Shah.
